A Story of Sound and Wine

A Story of
Sound and Wine

Did you know that the right music makes wine taste better?

In a world first, five Cape Winemakers Guild Protégés, composers, and neuroscientists have collaborated to create a piece of music that pairs with any glass of Cabernet Sauvignon – scientifically using music notes to enhance tasting notes, all facilitated by Nedbank.

Tasting Notes is the ultimate wine-tasting experience and passion mash-up; a new way of engaging with wine.

Wine

Five Cape Winemakers Guild Protégés determined the prominence of flavours and how they develop during their experience of drinking a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. This became our ‘tasting map’, guiding us through our story of sound and wine.

Music

Research shows verified sound to taste maps that we have translated into wine terms. Fruitiness is classified as a high-pitch sound; savoury high to middle; acidity middle to low; and tannins (or bitter) as a low pitch. This knowledge was combined with our collated data to map the taste experience into a music piece that enhances the flavour of a Cabernet Sauvignon.

Protégés

We worked with five Cape Winemakers Guild Protégés who lent their expertise to ensure authenticity throughout the scientific and creative process for this campaign.
